This painting starts out with the tree in my backyard from my hometown in Maryland, it goes from a flourishing forest and beautiful skin into the facial muscles of deforestation in the palm oil fields of Indonesia. The hair symbolizes forest fires and smoke suffocating our beautiful planet. The palm oil fields then go into the mass farming with stitches by the lip that symbolize fences. I didn’t realize this but mass farming is the number one cause of water and air pollution in the US. Our beautiful earth is then consumed by factories, roads and smoke which leaves nothing but the skeleton bones behind. It was so painful starting the painting off beautiful and slowly turning into destruction, but it made it seem even more real to me that this is actually happening all around us. The eyes symbolize the earth and it says “Save Me”. This frame was beautifully made by Auntie Tutu- we went to Reuse Hawai’i and picked out old growth redwood from Hawaiian hales.
